The Department of Khasi, Ri Bhoi College, was started in the Year 1984. At the start of its functioning, the department had only two faculty members - Shri. H. Lamare and Shri. S. Synrem.
They were able to conduct lectures on their own as the batch strength was still small. However, after a couple of years, Shri. H. Lamare decided to leave the post. As a result, Smt. L. K. Mawlong was appointed in the year 1989 to lend a helping hand in conducting classes.
As Life has its fair share of ups and downs, so the department had to bear its share of grief as well in the form of the loss of one of its core faculty members, Shri. S. Synrem. The Khasi Department offers degree-level courses for both the Arts and Commerce streams.
With the gradual increase in batch sizes, the department has had to adapt to the growing demands by appointing several other key members of the teaching staff over the years - Smt. W. Nongkynrih in 1999, Shri. F. Kharbuli in 2001, Shri. R. Jyrwa in 2004 and Smt. E. Hujon in 2016.
With the addition of the above-mentioned members over the years, the department has been able to continuously meet the concerns, needs, and aspirations of the students and, at the same time, able to work as a cohesive unit in maintaining and improving the academic standards that have been built upon these past few decades.
